LOS ANGELES, CA - Today, a federal court in California issued its ruling on the case in Perry et al v. Schwarzenegger et al.  The federal court has ruled that Prop 8 is unconstitutional on the grounds of violating the federal Due Process and the Equal Protection clauses of the U.S. Constitution, much like the civil right decisions issued decades ago.

SENATOR CEDILLO HONORS PROYECTO ORGULLO OF BIENESTAR AT COMMUNITY IMMIGRATION FORUM

Last Friday on August 20, 2010 at BIENESTAR East Los Angeles, the organization's Advocacy and Social Justice Program Proyecto Orgullo (Project Pride) hosted an Immigration Reform Community Forum for the Latino Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community. At the forum, the office of the Honorable Senator Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) commended BIENESTAR'S Proyecto Orgullo for the organization's LGBT advocacy work, and reaffirmed its commitment to protect the basic rights of the LGBT Community pursuant to an LGBT Bill of Rights.

White House announces the first National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the United States

This week the White House announced the first national HIV/AIDS strategy for the United States. Its laudable goals include reducing the number of new HIV infections by 25 percent within the next five years, and increasing the proportion of newly diagnosed patients linked to clinical care within three months of their HIV diagnosis from 65 percent to 85 percent.  In order to accomplish these goals the strategy sets forth a central directive: focus our public investment to achieve maximal response.   For too long our response has been as if everyone, or every group, is at equal risk of infection.  It's time we had a comprehensive and effective national strategy to combat HIV/AIDS which focuses federal resources on Read More

Hundreds of people participated in the 17th annual Cesar Chavez March for Justice hosted this year by the Mission Hills chapter of the United Farm Workers.  BIENESTAR has launched today a new website. bienestar.org is a portal with the most relevant information regarding AIDS and HIV for the Latino community in the United States.
